Uttarakhand: Fraud worth crores in the name of salaries in sanitation committees, salaries of sanitation workers stopped till the report comes; This is how the whole game was caught

Fraud worth crores of rupees has come to light in the name of salaries of the employees employed by the Municipal Corporation for the cleanliness system of the city. The employees included in the list provided by the sanitation committees were not found on the spot.
Therefore, the Municipal Corporation has started physical verification of employees. The salaries of these sanitation workers have been withheld until the verification report comes. The role of public representatives can also come to the fore in this game.
In fact, the Municipal Corporation constituted cleanliness committees for cleanliness in all the 100 wards. Eight to 12 sanitation workers were appointed to the committee formed in each ward. In such a situation, their number in the entire city is around one thousand.
Earlier, the salaries of the sanitation workers were allocated lump sum to the sanitation committee, but after the dissolution of the board on December 2, an attempt was made to make a new arrangement. Also, after receiving complaints of irregularities in the salary and PF etc. of the employees, it was decided to transfer the salary directly to the employee’s account.
For this, the Municipal Corporation collected the physical presence, Aadhar card and bank account number of each employee of the committees. During verification, the corporation team found that almost half of the employees were missing from the list provided earlier. Or someone else was found working in his place.
It is clear from this that the salary being given as per the list available earlier was being given to the wrong persons. At the same time, the number of employees was also said to be more than the actual number. Till now the corporation has done physical verification of employees in 75 wards, in which irregularities have come to light. Verification process is also going on in the remaining 25 wards.
Councilors had the authority to form committees
Before the dissolution of the board, only the councilors had the authority over sanitation committees. The councilors got joint accounts of the committee chairman and treasurer opened in their ward, in which the salaries of the employees were sent on behalf of the corporation. If sources are to be believed, arbitrary salaries were given to the employees in cash by the committee.
The corporation pays about Rs 1.5 crore every month
Under the Sanitation Committee, about Rs 1.5 crore is paid every month by the Municipal Corporation for the salaries of the employees. The monthly salary of each employee is Rs 15 thousand. In such a situation, the corporation has paid about Rs 90 crore in the last five years, out of about Rs 18 crore per year.
Physical verification of cleaning workers is being done. Salary will be paid only to the employee who is found posted on the spot. After taking complete information of each employee, money will be sent to his account. The names of the employees included in the earlier list who are not found on the spot, will be struck off from the list.-Dr. Avinash Khanna, Chief City Health Officer
