Transport Corporation in Tamil Nadu goes on indefinite strike before Pongal

Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation has gone on indefinite strike across the state. They are demanding the government to sign the 15th Wage Revision Agreement to increase salaries, fill vacancies on bus driver and conductor posts and release dearness allowance to retired employees. Let us tell you that the strike of transport unions has taken place before the main Tamil festival Pongal. Due to which there is a possibility of disturbance in the festive crowd.

Statement of Tamil Nadu Transport Minister
On this strike, Tamil Nadu Transport Minister SS Shivshankar said, overall the bus operation is absolutely normal. As per the instructions of our Chief Minister, we are taking care of the safety of all the passengers and their smooth journey. The transport union is demanding action on six issues. Of which two have already been completed. I appeal to the trade organization to end this strike. There is no need for the public to panic at this time.

Transport union accused the government
According to CITU leader A Sundararajan, the state government has made it clear that any demand of the transport workers cannot be accepted now, which is an unjust reply and an unfair stance. Leader Sundararajan said that this government is treating the employees of the Transport Corporation as second class citizens. A major demand is to release dearness allowance to pensioners that has been pending for eight years and we are not asking for an increase in it, we are asking for the release of due DA. The leader also said that if the government is not accepting our demands, then what right does the government have to ask us to cancel the strike.
