Javed Akhtar lends shoulder to Munawwar Rana’s funeral, says, ‘A big loss to the culture of India

Film writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar reached Lucknow on Monday and probably shouldered the funeral pyre of Munawwar Rana. Javed Sahab appeared very emotional on this occasion and described the demise of Munawwar Rana as ‘a loss to the culture of India’.

Poet Munawwar Rana, famous for writing many ghazals on his mother, died in Lucknow on Sunday. Munawwar, who breathed his last at the age of 71, was one of the famous poets of the country. He was ill for some time and was admitted to PGI, Lucknow. He was undergoing treatment in the hospital.

Talking to the media persons present there, Javed said, ‘The reality is that poetry has suffered a big loss. Of Urdu and the culture of India.

Continuing his point, Javed Akhtar said that with the demise of poets like Rahat Indori, then Nida Fazli and Munawwar Rana, Hindustani culture is ‘slowly going away.’  He said, ‘I don’t think it will be possible to compensate for this.’  Javed Akhtar also expressed his condolences to Munawwar’s family and said that Munawwar ‘will be missed and will be missed forever.’
