IND vs ENG: English bowler of Pakistani origin did not come with the Indian team, waiting for visa in Abu Dhabi
Due to delay in paperwork, England’s young spinner Shoaib Bashir has been forced to stay in UAE before the first Test of the five-match series against India starting on Thursday. 20 year old Bashir is waiting for his test debut. His parents are of Pakistani origin.
After the end of England’s training camp in Abu Dhabi, he had to stay there. According to the news of ‘ESPNcricinfo’, Stuart Hooper, who recently joined the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) as the Managing Director of Cricket Operations, is accompanying Bashir. Meanwhile, England Test team head coach Brendon McCullum has informed that the ECB has taken up the issue with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the relevant authorities in the Government of India and the issue is expected to be resolved within 24 hours.
Due to this delay, Bashir will not be able to practice for about two days but McCullum assured that the Somerset player will remain in the race for selection in the first Test. McCullum said, ‘Hopefully Bash (Bashir) will join us tomorrow. There are some issues with his visa. We are confident that with the help of BCCI and Government of India, this issue will be resolved quickly.
He said, ‘Things take time, don’t they? Every person is doing whatever is possible. This is the process we have to go through.’ The head coach said, ‘We are confident that we are very close. Bash will benefit greatly from the time he has spent with the team in Abu Dhabi. He said, ‘Hopefully the news of approval of his visa will come today. After this we will bring him for the series.
