21 sixes, 33 fours in Ranji Trophy… Tanmay Agarwal destroyed the record book, scored the fastest triple century

Hyderabad opening batsman Tanmay Agarwal created history in Ranji Trophy on Friday. He scored a triple century in 147 balls against Arunachal Pradesh at the Nexgen Cricket Ground in Hyderabad. This is also the fastest triple century in first class cricket history. Agarwal broke the record of South Africa’s Marco Marais, who scored 300 runs in 191 balls for Border against Eastern Province in 2017.
Tanmay overtakes Ravi Shastri
Left-handed batsman Tanmay Agarwal also broke the record of former Indian captain Ravi Shastri by reaching the 200 mark in 119 balls. Shastri (123 balls) was the fastest batsman to score a double century in first-class cricket so far. His record was 39 years old. It was also the second fastest first-class double century ever. Tanmay Agarwal has also become the first batsman in Indian cricket to score 300 runs in a single day.

At the time of stump he was unbeaten on 321 runs. He hit 33 fours and 21 sixes in his innings of 160 balls. Tanmay Agarwal has also become the batsman to hit the most sixes in an innings of Ranji Trophy. Only 3 more are needed to reach the most number of sixes in a first-class innings. This record is currently held by New Zealand’s Colin Munro, who hit 23 sixes during his innings of 281 for Auckland against Central Districts in 2014/15.
449 runs added for the first wicket
Hyderabad bowled out Arunachal Pradesh’s first innings for just 172 runs. Then in only 48 overs, 529 runs were scored at a run rate of around 11. Only one wicket has fallen for the team. Openers Tanmay and Rahul Singh Gehlot (185 off 105 balls) scored 449 runs for the first wicket, the fifth best score by an Indian pair in first-class cricket.
