Fire fighting efforts are being made on the distressed ship. INS Visakhapatnam has been deployed to assist the crew. The MV has a crew of 22 Indians and 1 Bangladeshi. The Indian Navy is committed to ensuring the safety of the MV.
Houthi rebels have wreaked havoc
Meanwhile, US Central Command said Houthi rebels fired an anti-ship ballistic missile from areas off Yemen and hit the Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker M/V Marlin Luanda. “The Houthis are active in the Gulf of Aden,” US Central Command said in a post on Twitter. On January 26, at approximately 7:45 pm (Sanaa time), Iranian-backed rebels opened fire.
It said, ‘The ship issued a distress call and reported the loss. USS Carney (DDG 64) and other coalition ships responded and are providing assistance. There is no information about anyone being injured at this time.
Earlier this month, the Indian Navy’s mission-deployed guided missile destroyer INS Visakhapatnam responded to a distress call from MV Genco Picardy following a drone attack on the night of January 17. INS Visakhapatnam is currently on anti-piracy operations. The mission in the Gulf of Aden immediately responded to the distress call. The destroyer stopped the ships at midnight on 18 January 2024 to provide immediate assistance.
