Consensus on seat sharing in ‘INDIA’ in UP; Congress will contest elections on 11 Lok Sabha seats, Akhilesh Yadav announces

An agreement has been reached on seat sharing in the India alliance in Uttar Pradesh. The deal for seats between Samajwadi Party and Congress has been finalized. Congress will contest elections on 11 seats in UP. Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav has given this information by posting on social media X.

While posting on Saturday, Akhilesh Yadav wrote – Our cordial alliance with Congress is off to a good start with 11 strong seats. This trend will continue further with the winning equation. The team of ‘India’ and the strategy of ‘PDA’ will change history.

At the same time, according to media reports, Congress Party is reported to be in disagreement with Akhilesh Yadav’s decision. It is being said that this decision is of Akhilesh Yadav and not of Congress. However, no statement from any Congress leader has come yet on this.

Let us tell you that on January 17, a meeting was held in Delhi between the alliance partners Congress and SP on seat distribution, but no result could be achieved in the meeting. After the meeting was over, Congress leader Salman Khurshid had said that another meeting is to be held with SP. If things don’t work out then Congress leader Rahul Gandhi or Mallikarjun Kharge will talk to Akhilesh Yadav.

Discussion was held on each seat

State President Ajay Rai, Salman Khurshid, Aradhana Mishra were present on behalf of Congress in these meetings regarding seats. Whereas, Ram Gopal Yadav, Javed Ali Khan and Udayveer Singh were present from SP’s side. According to the information, discussion took place regarding every seat of UP. Every possibility of victory was explored.

Congress was demanding 25 seats

Three rounds of meetings were held between Congress and SP in Delhi. According to sources, Congress was demanding 25 seats. However, talks on 11 seats have been finalized. At present Congress has the only Lok Sabha seat of Rae Bareli in UP.

Congress can contest on these seats

According to sources, apart from Rae Bareli and Amethi, Congress can contest on the seats of Pratapgarh, Varanasi, Kanpur, Ghaziabad, Allahabad, Saharanpur, Moradabad. It is estimated that most of the seats in Eastern UP will remain with SP.

Congress’s performance in the last three elections

  • 2009- Congress contested elections on 69 seats and won 21. In this election, SP contested on 75 seats and won 23 seats and BSP on 69 seats and won 20.
  • 2014- Congress won only two seats after fighting on 67 seats. SP contested five seats out of 75 and BSP contested 80 and could not win even a single seat.
  • 2019- There was an alliance of SP-BSP. Congress contested on 67 seats and could win only Rae Bareli. SP contested on 37 and won five, while BSP contested on 38 and won 10. After losing Rampur and Azamgarh, SP has only three MPs.
