Sudan Border Dispute: The border dispute between Sudan and South Sudan is not stopping, 40 people died in the clash between the two groups.
There has once again been a clash between two groups on the border of Sudan and South Sudan, in which about 40 people have been killed. Many civilians have also died in the clashes between the two groups. At the same time, to escape this violence, hundreds of people have taken shelter in the premises of United Nations peacekeepers. News agency Reuters has given this information quoting a government official.
Why are clashes happening?
It is known that such clashes often occur between the Dinka ethnic group and rival groups in the Abyei region. An important reason for the clashes between the two is the ‘border dispute’, where significant tax revenue is collected due to cross-border trade. Actually, Abyei is an oil-rich area, which is jointly administered by both South Sudan and Sudan. At the same time, now both have laid claim to this disputed area, due to which clashes are taking place continuously.
18 people killed
At the same time, the area’s Information Minister Bullis Koch said that clashes were also seen in this area on 2 and 3 February. During this period, a total of 19 civilians were killed and 18 others were injured. He said that during the clash, some people set fire to many markets and also looted property. Some 18 people were killed in separate attacks on Sunday, Kot said, including three children and a local member of staff working for the international humanitarian medical aid organisation.
There were clashes earlier also
Let it be known that this is not the first clash. In January, there was a clash between gunmen and villagers in the same area, in which 54 people were killed, while 64 were injured. A United Nations peacekeeper was also among the dead.
