Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday promised to conduct a nationwide caste-based census and remove the 50 percent cap on reservation if the ‘India’ coalition forms the government at the Center after the Lok Sabha elections. Rahul Gandhi also alleged that the BJP tried to topple the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-Congress-Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) government in Jharkhand because the chief minister was a tribal. Rahul Gandhi was addressing a rally organized at Shaheed Maidan in Ranchi on Monday. He said- ‘I want to congratulate all the MLAs of the alliance, (Champai) Soren ji that he stopped the conspiracy of BJP-RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) and protected the government of the poor.’
The first step will be to conduct caste based census in the country
Rahul Gandhi claimed that Dalits, tribals, Other Backward Classes (OBCs) were made bonded laborers and had no say in big companies, hospitals, schools, colleges and courts. Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi said- “This is the biggest question facing India. Our first step will be to conduct a caste-based census in the country. He said that under the existing provisions, more than 50 percent reservation cannot be given. He promised that the Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance (India) government would ‘remove’ the 50 per cent cap on reservation.
Backward sections of the society will get their rights
Gandhi said, “There will be no cut in the reservation of Dalits and tribals. I am guaranteeing you that the backward sections of the society will get their rights. This is the biggest issue – social and economic injustice.’ He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi says that he is an OBC, but when the demand for caste census was made, he said that there are only two castes here – rich and poor.
Rahul Gandhi claimed that when the time comes to give rights to OBCs, Dalits, tribals, Modi ji says there is no caste and when the time comes to take votes, he says he is an OBC.
BJP does not accept tribal chief minister
After the Champai Soren-led government won the trust vote in the Jharkhand Assembly, Gandhi criticized the BJP, alleging that it tried to oust the government because it could not accept that a tribal was the chief minister. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, “Congress, JMM stood together against him and the government was saved. They do this in all opposition ruled states through investigative agencies and money power. They (BJP) are attacking democracy, the Constitution and want to suppress the voice of the people. ‘India’ alliance will not allow the voice of democracy to be suppressed.
The ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’, which started from Manipur, will cover a distance of 6,713 kilometers in 67 days and pass through 110 districts of 15 states and will end in Mumbai on March 20.
