Hockey: Indian player who became DSP two days ago was accused of raping a minor, victim lodged FIR
Indian hockey team defender Varun Kumar has been accused of raping a minor. The victim has filed a complaint against him under POCSO at Gyanbharti police station. Varun is accused of raping a minor several times on the pretext of marriage.
The woman told that when she met Varun in 2019, she was 17 years old. She met the hockey player through the social media platform Instagram. During this time, Varun was taking training at Sports Authority of India (SAI). After the complaint was registered, the police raided his residence in Jalandhar. Actually, Varun hails from Himachal Pradesh, but lives in Jalandhar.
Varun is running away from the police
In this case the police say, ‘Varun is running away. Their search is on. In the statement given to the police, the victim told that whenever the Indian player came to Bengaluru, he used to have physical relations with her. Now the victim is 22 years old, but the first meeting between the two took place when she was 17 years old.
Varun, a resident of Himachal, came to Punjab a few years ago for hockey. He made his debut for India in 2017. He also won a silver medal in the Commonwealth Games held in 2022. Apart from this, he was a part of the team that won the gold medal in the Asian Games held in 2022. He was also a part of India’s bronze medal winning team at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Let us tell you that two days ago, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann had handed over the appointment letter to Varun. He was made DSP in Punjab Police. While talking about the allegations against Varun, his father Brahmanand denied any knowledge of the matter.
He told that he is not able to talk to his son, his phone is switched off. The father said, “I don’t know what the matter is. Varun’s phone is switched off. I will be able to tell what the matter is only after talking to him. Varun is currently in the camp of the Indian hockey team in Odisha. The matter will be cleared after discussion.”
