Who is Team India captain Uday Saharan who took India to the final in the U19 World Cup?
Uday Saharan, who is captaining the Indian team in the ICC Under-19 ODI World Cup, is from village Madera in Sriganganagar city of Rajasthan. He was born on 8 September 2004 in Sri Ganganagar city. Uday, who became the man of the match against South Africa in the semi-finals, lives in Sriganganagar. Father Sanjeev Saharan had a special conversation with Local 18 on his cricket journey.
Sanjeev Saharan told that Uday has received his primary education till seventh class from Kids Camp Convent School of Sriganganagar. After this he went to Fazilka and received his eighth and ninth grade education from Atma Vallabh Public School there. Along with studies, Uday also continued his cricket coaching. Later Uday went to Bathinda and took further education from there.
Presently Uday is studying BA second year in SSD College of Professional Studies, Bathinda. Uday took up the bat at the age of 11. Uday proved that he can perform well even under pressure by playing a brilliant inning of 81 runs against South Africa in the semi-final match on Tuesday.
Started playing at the age of 11
Uday played for the District Cricket Association Fazilka for the first time at the age of 11. He got selected in the Under-16 trials in the very first season. However, the selectors did not select him in the team citing his young age. After this, Uday gave trials for Under-14 in Bathinda, Punjab. Balveer Singh, Chairman of the Selection Committee of Punjab Cricket Association, had come here to take the trials. He selected Uday from the Punjab team in Under-14.
Uday performed better in Under-14 and secured his place in Under-16 also. At that time, Uday had scored 497 runs in an innings while playing for Punjab in North Zone. After this he kept moving forward. Then he was selected as the captain of the Indian team in the Under-19 ODI World Cup.

Uday’s father Sanjeev Saharan is an Ayurveda doctor but he also wanted to become a cricketer at some point of time and wanted to play cricket for the Indian team. Sanjeev Saharan told that due to some difficult domestic circumstances he could not fulfill his dream. In fact, Sanjeev is the person who recognized the hidden cricketer in Uday and then instilled passion for this game in his son.
When Uday was young, Sanjeev saw his son taking interest in cricket and he thought in his mind that his son would fulfill his dream. Let us tell you that Uday’s father Sanjeev Saharan is currently the level one coach of BCCI and he has also given batting tips to Deepak Chahar.
Uday started taking cricket coaching from his father at a young age. Only after this he was selected in Under-14, Under-16 and Under-19. Sanjeev Saharan said that he is confident that the Indian team will win the World Cup under the captaincy of Uday.
Sanjeeva’s dream is that Uday Senior should set records by playing with players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the Indian team. He said that Uday has not only brought glory to his district but has also brought glory to Rajasthan as well as the state of Punjab.
