Bilkis Bano convicts out on parole a few days after surrender, SC had ordered them to surrender

A few days after surrendering in the Bilkis Bano case on the orders of the Supreme Court, a convict got parole for five days, after which he came out. The Supreme Court last month had canceled the remission of sentence of all 11 convicts in the case of gang rape of Bilkis Bano and murder of seven of her relatives after the 2002 Godhra riots.

The convict came out on parole for five days

Following the order of the Supreme Court, all the convicts had surrendered themselves before the jail authorities. The father-in-law of one of the convicts, Pradeep Modhiya, has passed away, due to which the Gujarat High Court has given him parole for five days. Convict Pradeep Modhiya, resident of Dahod district, has been released from Godhra district jail on parole.

Dahod Deputy Superintendent of Police Vishakha Jain said that the Gujarat High Court has granted five-day parole to a convict, Pradeep Modhiya, due to the death of his father-in-law. He said it is a matter between the court and the jail as he is in judicial custody.

Parole was sought for one month

Let us tell you that Pradeep Modhiya, citing the death of his father-in-law, had filed a petition in the Gujarat High Court and sought parole for one month, on which Judge MR Mengde allowed parole for five days.

In August 2022, the Gujarat government had prematurely released all the convicts from jail in accordance with its 1992 policy, citing their ‘good conduct’. Earlier on January 8, the Supreme Court had canceled the exemption given to the culprits by the Gujarat government. The court had ordered those convicts to go back to jail within two weeks.
