Uttarakhand: Politics heated up regarding Haldwani violence, met Governor

There was a dispute over removal of encroachment in Banbhulpura of Haldwani, after which the administration ordered to shoot in the legs of the miscreants, due to which six people were killed and curfew was imposed in the city.

The violence in Haldwani has heated up politics. Leaders of the opposition alliance sent a letter to the Governor. He demanded a judicial inquiry into the violence in Haldwani. Leaders of the opposition alliance reached Raj Bhavan under the leadership of Congress State President Karan Mahara.

Local people attacked the police and administration team that had gone to demolish the illegal madrasa and religious place in Malik’s garden in Banbhulpura area of Haldwani. City Magistrate Richa Singh, Ramnagar Kotwal and more than 300 corporation workers and policemen were injured in stone pelting.

The miscreants also demolished Banbhulpura police station. More than 70 vehicles, including police jeeps, JCBs, fire engines and two-wheelers, were torched. When the situation did not come under control, the officers were the first to flee the scene, be it tear gas shells or lathi charge. The police and corporation team somehow left from there. On seeing the protest, the administration has ordered to shoot in the leg. Six people, including a father and son, were shot dead. Restrictions were imposed in the city.
