Israel-Hamas War: Two rescue workers including a girl found dead in Gaza, claimed to have been killed in Israeli firing; Tunnel found under UN headquarters

Thousands of people have lost their lives so far in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. Israeli aerial bombardments and ground attacks on Gaza have killed more than 27,000 people in Gaza over the past four months, according to Palestinian health officials. At the same time, during a rescue operation, six people including a six-year-old Palestinian girl and two rescue workers were found dead. The girl’s name was Hind Rajab.

UN agency accused Israel

The New York Times reports that two rescue workers were dispatched in an ambulance on the evening of January 29 to find the girl, who was trapped in a vehicle with six dead members of her family in Gaza City. The UN agency claimed they were killed by Israeli gunfire.

Israeli forces accused of bombing ambulance

The Red Crescent, in a statement on Saturday, accused Israeli forces of bombing the ambulance. The Red Crescent shared a photo on social media of a burnt-out and almost unrecognizable ambulance. The Israeli military did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the Red Crescent’s allegations. The army had said last week that it was not aware of the incident.

According to Gaza authorities, more than 12,000 of the dead were children. UNICEF, the UN children’s agency, said on Friday that more than 600,000 children and their families have been displaced from the southern Gaza city of Rafah. Israel’s war in Gaza began when Hamas launched a cross-border attack on Israel, which Israeli officials said killed about 1,200 people.

Tunnel found under UN agency headquarters in Gaza

Israeli forces have discovered a 700-meter-long tunnel beneath the headquarters of the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Gaza. The army invited journalists to see the tunnel on Thursday. This shows how Hamas is misusing the UN agency. Palestine accused Israel of defaming UNRWA.

UNRWA employs 13,000 people. It has been a lifeline for the Gaza Strip and those dependent on aid. The agency provides primary schools, health care clinics, and other social services. The army claimed that the headquarters supplied electricity to the tunnel. UNRWA says it has no information about the tunnel.
