Haldwani, the site of violence, Dhami announced to build a police station at the disputed site

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday announced the construction of a police station on the land freed from encroachment in Banbhulpura area of Haldwani. A recovery notice of Rs 2.44 crore was issued against Abdul Malik, the main accused of inciting violence, on charges of damaging government property.

Officials said that the curfew is limited to Banbhulpura only and the situation in the area is gradually returning to normal. He said that additional companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order while 120 arms licenses have been canceled in the area.

What did the Chief Minister say?

In his address while participating in the Nari Shakti Mahotsav in Haridwar, the Chief Minister said that after the encroachment was removed from a garden in Banbhulpura, several acres of land has emerged there. Dhami said, ‘Today I announce from the holy banks of Mother Ganga that a police station will be built at that place.’

Violence took place on 8 February

On February 8, miscreants attacked the administrative staff during the demolition of the illegal madrasa and namaz place built in ‘Malik Ka Bagicha’ located in Banbhulpura area. During this period, stone pelting, arson was carried out and Banbhulpura police station was also burnt.

Six people died, more than 100 policemen injured

In response to this, the police also used force in which six people were killed and more than 100 people including policemen were injured. The Chief Minister again reiterated that this type of act will not be tolerated at any cost in Uttarakhand and the police is continuously working to arrest the people who hatched this conspiracy.
