Pakistan: ‘Army should focus on defense instead of business’, Pakistan Supreme Court seeks assurance from the government
The Supreme Court of Pakistan has strongly criticized the political and commercial interference of the army. It is noteworthy that a three-judge bench was headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faiz Isa in a case investigating the use of military land for commercial purposes.
Army should focus on defence, not on systems – Supreme Court
During the hearing, the Supreme Court emphasized that all the institutions of the country should only fulfill their constitutional responsibilities, they should remain within the limits. It is noteworthy that the hearing on this case started in 2021. Cantonment Board land in Karachi was illegally used for commercial gain. On Wednesday, Justice Isa expressed regret that the Army had set up marriage halls on military land.
Government institutions should remain within their limits, government should ensure
During the hearing, Judge Isa told Attorney General Mansoor Usman that every government institution should remain within its jurisdiction. The judge asked whether we can get this assurance. During the hearing, the Attorney General agreed with the judge. During the hearing, the counsel for the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) told the court that the building which gave rise to the dispute belonged to the board because the person who was allotted the land sold it on fake documents, after which he built a five-storey building.
When the construction took place, where did ETPB- Court say
On this matter, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar said in a strict tone that when the building was being constructed, were the eyes of ETPB closed? Chief Justice Isa said this would not have been possible without the participation of the Sindh Building Control Authority. The court said that the assets of Karachi Registry should be audited by the Federal Board of Revenue.
