Uttarakhand: Meeting of Chief Electoral Officer with police officers, CCTV and verification of licensed arms holders will be done at every check post.

Preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections are going on in full swing. While on one hand political parties are busy in preparations, on the other hand the Chief Election Office is also busy in preparations to conduct the elections in an organized manner. In this sequence, Chief Electoral Officer Dr. BVRC Purushottam held a high level meeting with the officials of the Police Department at the Secretariat on Saturday. In the meeting, a review meeting was mainly held regarding law and order, deployment of police force and central security forces in the state during elections.
CCTV at check post
During the meeting, Chief Electoral Officer Dr. Purushottam instructed the officials that all preparations should be completed on time before the election process starts. Along with this, preparations for additional deployment of district-wise police force and deployment of central police force should also be completed. Apart from this, a full proof plan for inter state monitoring and inter district monitoring should also be prepared and implemented on the ground. In order to ensure security as well as to curb smuggling of liquor and money, CCTV cameras should be mandatorily installed at every check post in the state and surveillance arrangements should be completed.
Verification of arms license holders
During the meeting, the CEO has also given instructions to establish surveillance and check posts of police and excise department at different places. Chief Electoral Officer Purushottam has given instructions to re-inspect and verify the list of arms license holders issued from all the districts of the state. Along with this, the police department has been instructed to prepare a district-wise list of history-sheeters and gangsters.
On-site inspection of sensitive and vulnerable locations
Chief Electoral Officer Purushottam has asked the police department to make separate arrangements for 100 percent voting of the personnel on duty. Along with this, instructions were given to conduct proper management by conducting on-site inspection of the basic arrangements at the proposed sites for the camps of Central Police Forces. Instructions have been given to conduct on-site inspection of sensitive and hypersensitive places in the state. Along with this, instructions have been given to all the nodal agencies engaged in enforcement activities during the election process to work responsibly.
Order to Excise Department also
The Chief Electoral Officer directed the Excise Department and the Police Department to keep an eye on those storing and smuggling illegal liquor in view of the upcoming elections. At the same time, the police department said during the meeting that an action plan related to deployment of district police force, deployment of central security forces, sensitive places and enforcement in the state has been prepared. The Excise Department informed that in view of the elections in the state, control rooms have been set up for enforcement and monitoring, in which continuous district-wise monitoring is being done.
