According to sources, Congress MP from Anandpur Sahib, Punjab, Manish Tiwari is also in touch with BJP and may join the party. It is being said that this time Manish Tiwari wants to contest elections from Ludhiana Lok Sabha on BJP’s election symbol instead of Anandpur Sahib.
BJP sources said that the party has a capable candidate in Ludhiana seat. There is a dilemma regarding Manish Tiwari joining BJP regarding the seat.
Manish Tiwari’s office issued this statement
However, amid speculations that Manish Tiwari is in touch with BJP, his office has issued a statement. It said, ‘The speculations about Manish Tiwari joining BJP are baseless. He is in his constituency and is supervising the development works there. He stayed at the house of Congress workers on Saturday night itself.
Who is Manish Tiwari?
Let us tell you that Manish Tewari is not only an MP but also a lawyer. In the 17th Lok Sabha, he was elected Congress MP from Anandpur Sahib, Punjab. During the UPA government, he was the Minister of Information and Broadcasting from 2012 to 2014 and MP from Ludhiana from 2009 to 2014. He was also the spokesperson of Congress during the UPA government.
Tiwari was the President of the Indian National Students Union from 1988 to 1993. And was the President of Indian Youth Congress (I) from 1998 to 2000. He lost the 2004 Lok Sabha elections but won the 2009 Lok Sabha elections by defeating the Shiromani Akali Dal candidate. In March 2014, he did not contest the Lok Sabha elections due to ill health.
