CBI raids the residence of former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik, action taken in hydro power project case

The CBI today (February 22) raided more than 30 places, including the premises of former governor Satyapal Malik, in the Rs 2,200 crore corruption case in the Kiru Hydro Power Project in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar in 2019. Let us tell you that the issue of corruption in this project was raised by former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik.

I was offered a bribe of Rs 300 crore: Satyapal Malik

Satyapal Malik, who was the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir between August 23, 2018 and October 30, 2019, had claimed that he was offered a bribe of Rs 300 crore to clear two files. After this, CBI had registered a case in April last year.

In this case, the investigating agency had conducted searches on three previous occasions at premises linked to several officers and individuals. After registering the case, CBI conducted searches at 10 places in April last year and at 16 places in June 2022. In May this year also, searches were conducted at 12 places.

“A case was registered in 2019 on charges of malpractice in awarding the contract of civil works of Kiru Hydro Electric Power Project (HEP) worth about Rs 2,200 crore to a private company,” the CBI had earlier said.

The agency has registered a case against former chairman of Chenab Valley Power Projects (P) Ltd Naveen Kumar Choudhary and other former officials MS Babu, MK Mittal and Arun Kumar Mishra and Patel Engineering Ltd.
