WPL 2024: Smriti Mandhana’s team beats Gujarat Giants
In WPL 2024, RCB team defeated Gujarat Giants by 8 wickets. In this match, RCB captain Smriti Mandhana won the toss and decided to bowl first, which proved to be right. Gujarat Giants gave a target of 108 runs to the RCB team to win, in response to which RCB easily achieved the target. Smriti Mandhana and Ellyse Perry performed brilliantly for RCB. RCB team has registered its second consecutive win in WPL 2024. Earlier, RCB team had defeated UP Warriors by 2 wickets. RCB team is at number one in WPL 2024. The team has four points from two matches.
Mandhana played an excellent innings
RCB team did not have a good start when Sophie Devine was out after scoring just 6 runs. Captain Smriti Mandhana scored 43 runs in 27 balls with the help of eight fours and one six. Whereas S Meghna added 36 runs in 28 balls which included five fours and a six. Both of them made a partnership of 40 runs for the second wicket and the team reached the target of 108 runs in 12.3 overs. Mandhana hit two fours on the first two balls of fast bowler Lia Tahuhu. He scored 13 runs in the first over by hitting another four. In the third over, RCB’s score was 32 runs without any loss but in the fourth over, Sophie Devine was dismissed by Ashley Gardner. Mandhana continued her aggressive game and hit Tahuhu for a six.
Bowlers showed their strength
Earlier, RCB bowlers restricted Gujarat Giants to 107 runs for seven wickets. Fast bowler Renuka Singh took two wickets for 14 runs and spinner Sophie Molineau took three wickets for 25 runs. RCB bowlers not only took wickets but also performed economically. Gujarat Giants captain Beth Mooney could score only eight runs. After hitting two fours to Renuka, she was out on the next ball. Renuka also dismissed Phoebe Lichfield, who missed while trying to step out, and Richa Ghosh displayed some skillful stumping.

Renuka Singh took two wickets for 14 runs in four overs. Since then, Giants’ wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Dylan Hemlata scored unbeaten 31 runs in 25 balls and took him beyond 100 runs. Gujarat Giants scored 44 runs in the first ten overs while losing two wickets. Gujarat Giants batsmen could hit only ten fours and two sixes in the entire innings. Renuka Singh was given the Player of the Match award for her excellent performance.
