Shahbaz will be the new Wazir-e-Azam of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif nominated
Shahbaz Sharif is once again going to become the Prime Minister of Pakistan which is struggling with money crunch. Because the parliamentary party of PML-N party headed by three-time former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has formally nominated his younger brother on Wednesday. Lead a coalition government and fix the economy.
A high-level meeting of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of party supremo Nawaz Sharif (74). Shehbaz Sharif, 72, led the coalition government for 16 months until August 2023 before a caretaker government took over after general elections were announced.
Support for Shahbaz Sharif’s name
Nawaz Sharif officially nominated his younger brother Shehbaz Sharif and party loyalist Ayaz Sadiq for the post of Prime Minister and Speaker of the National Assembly. PML-N central deputy secretary Ataullah Tarar said in a statement after the meeting that the parliamentary party supported Shehbaz Sharif’s name and expressed full confidence in the leadership of Nawaz Sharif.
The nomination of Shehbaz Sharif as the next Prime Minister by Nawaz Sharif, who was himself eyeing the post for a record fourth time, surprised many within and outside the party. Nawaz Sharif said that especially in the current circumstances of Pakistan, his younger brother Shahbaz is the best choice for the post of Prime Minister.
Prevented the country from defaulting
He praised cricketer-turned-politician Shehbaz Sharif’s performance as prime minister during the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s tenure after former PM Imran Khan was ousted from power. Nawaz Sharif said that the way he stopped the country from defaulting is unprecedented. He expressed hope that Pakistan will come out of the current crises in the next one or two years.
The country will have to be brought out of difficulties: Nawaz
Nawaz Sharif said that Pakistan is very injured at this time and we will have to heal its wounds. We have to take the country out of these difficulties and I believe that we will have to take difficult decisions in the next two years. He said that we have to provide convenience to the public, we have to fix the prices of electricity and gas, we have to make Pakistan stand on its feet and if you move forward with a thoughtful agenda, then this journey will become easy.
Speaker called the session
Meanwhile, outgoing National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf today addressed the National Assembly after President Dr Arif Alvi, considered close to jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, refused to do so. Assembly session has been called.
The President is of the view that Parliament has not been completed as the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has not yet clarified its position on the allocation of reserved seats to Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) after the ‘merger’ of PTI-SIC. Imran Khan’s PTI-backed independents have emerged as the biggest winners, followed by PML-N and PPP.
However, Imran Khan has alleged that the February 8 elections were the most controversial and rigged elections in the history of the country. He has accused the PML-N-Pakistan People’s Party alliance formed after the elections to form the government at the Centre, in which four other parties are also included, of being mandate thieves.
Full support of the military establishment
PML-N has the full support of the military establishment to form the government both at the Center and in Punjab province. According to the Constitution, to form the government, a party must win 133 out of 265 seats contested in the 266-member National Assembly. Candidates supported by Imran Khan’s PTI party won 93 National Assembly seats. PML-N won 75 seats while PPP stood third with 54 seats. Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) has 17 seats.
As part of the PML-N-PPP coalition deal, it was decided that Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz would be the Chief Minister of Punjab province. Nawaz Sharif’s political successor Maryam took oath on Monday and became the first woman chief minister of any province in the country. The second part of the deal was that senior PPP leader former Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari would get the presidency.
