Pakistan: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf seeks support from JUI-F for PM, National Assembly Speaker elections

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has called on Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) to support its party in the elections for the post of Prime Minister of Pakistan and National Assembly (NA) Speaker slot. This information was given by Pakistan based ARY News.

According to details, the PTI delegation, which included Pakistan Prime Minister Omar Ayub and National Assembly Speaker Amir Dogar and others, visited the house of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Islamabad.

PTI’s candidate for the PM post Omar Ayub said he met the JUI-F chief to seek his support in the election process.

“We have come here with a request to vote for PTI candidates in the election for the post of Prime Minister and National Assembly Speaker,” he said.

Asked whether PTI founder Imran Khan, who is lodged in Adaila jail, was aware of the developments, Omar Ayub replied, “Yes.” According to ARY News report, he said that many political parties have objections to the election results.

Speaking on the occasion, Asad Qaiser said that both the parties have certain stands regarding the election results and demanded that they be declared on the basis of Form 45.

We (PTI and JUI-F) will move forward together in Parliament also, he said. Asad Qaiser said that the country cannot develop unless the rule of law is established.

Earlier on February 15, a PTI delegation led by Asad Qaiser, including Amir Dogar, Barrister Saif, Fazal Muhammad and Umair Niazi, called on JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman at his residence. According to ARY News report, during the meeting PTI leaders conveyed Imran Khan’s message to him.

Sources aware of the developments said both parties discussed matters related to ‘large-scale rigging’ in the elections held on February 8. Rehman and the PTI delegation have expressed their reservations about the election results.

The 12th national general election was held in Pakistan on 8 February amid allegations of rigging and shutdown of cellular and internet services.

With the highest number of successful candidates in the 8 February general elections, PTI dominated the election results. However, the party has alleged rigging in the elections.

Earlier this week, PTI had announced its decision to hold protests on March 2 against alleged rigging in the elections held on February 8, Pakistan-based Geo News reported.

The party founded by Imran Khan announced that other political parties will also join him. PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub, who is also the party’s candidate for prime minister, talked about “large-scale” rigging in the elections. He made the remarks at a press conference after meeting PTI founder Imran Khan.

Ayub said the PTI along with other political parties would lead nationwide protests against “rigging” in the elections.

He said, our seats were stolen with a stroke of the pen. The public gave the mandate to the former PTI chairman. The mandate of the country and our seats have been attacked.

According to Geo News report, he said that the successful PTI-backed candidate had Form 45 and added that PTI leaders held a meeting with Imran Khan, who is in jail. The PTI secretary said Imran Khan is “confident” about the party’s stand.

Omar Ayub said that PTI will protest in courts and assemblies. He further said, our fight is for truth. He announced that PTI has nominated Amir Dogar and Junaid Khan for the posts of National Assembly Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
