Pakistan: Judicial commission should be formed to investigate May 9 violence, Bilawal Bhutto supported the demand of Imran Khan’s party
Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Monday supported the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the May 9 violence. He said that, but for this PTI will have to give assurance that it will accept the decision of the panel. Jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party is demanding an investigation into the May 9 riots.
After the arrest of former PM Imran Khan in a corruption case on May 9 last year, his supporters were enraged. They had caused damage to state institutions including military establishments. After this, cases are going on against more than 100 PTI supporters.
In a speech in the newly constituted National Assembly, former foreign minister Bilawal supported the demand of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and requested newly elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to request Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faiz Isa to set up a constitution bench . The Chief Justice himself should chair this inquiry commission.
Allegations of harassment of PTI workers in custody
PTI leaders have alleged that the arrested workers who were protesting against rigging in the elections held on February 8 are being harassed. The party said that a worker was so harassed by the Lahore police that he had to be admitted to the hospital. His condition is serious. PTI General Secretary Omar Ayub said in a post on ‘X’ that party worker Ahmed Shah was arrested from Lahore on Saturday.
