IS terrorists attack in Syria, 18 killed

Islamic State militants attacked villagers harvesting truffles in eastern Syria on Wednesday, killing 18 and wounding 16. Truffles are a seasonal fruit, which is sold at a high price. Many people go out to collect them in Syria, as 90% of the population here lives below the poverty line.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said about 50 people were also missing in Wednesday’s attack. It is possible that he may have been kidnapped by IS. The Observatory said the dead also included four members of pro-government national security forces. According to government media house Dama Post, the death toll is said to be 44. The attack took place in the desert area near the city of Kobazeb in the eastern province of Deir al-Zour, bordering Iraq.
