Everyone knows about Kedarnath Dham, but do you know that there is a Shiva temple in Uttarakhand where even the dead become alive and every wish is fulfilled. Today we are going to tell you about such miraculous Shiva temples of Uttarakhand.
When we say Shiva we mean zero. Today modern science also believes that everything in this world starts from zero and ends at zero only. Shiva is also known as Bhole Bhandari. This is said because Lord Shiva does not differentiate between demons. Whatever anyone asks from him, he gives it.
Koteshwar Mahadev
You must have heard about Bhasmasur that Lord Shiva had given a boon to a demon named Bhasmasur that whoever he placed his hand on would be burnt to ashes. But Bhasmasur did not believe in the boon given by Shiva, so he wanted to put his hand on Shiva’s head to test the boon. Then Lord Shiva took shelter in this cave to save his life.
It is also said that after the Mahabharata war, Pandavas found Lord Shiva doing penance. It is said that Lord Shiva had performed penance in Koteshwar cave and there are one crore Shivalingas here due to which this place was named Koteshwar. There is a belief here that on the day of Shivratri, whoever lights a lamp in a plate, holds it with both hands and worships Lord Shiva throughout the night, he definitely gets the happiness of having a child.
Tadkeshwar Mahadev Temple
Tadkeshwar Mahadev Temple is situated near Lansdowne in Garhwal. According to mythology, here a demon named Tarakasur had performed penance to get the boon of immortality from Lord Shiva. As soon as he received the boon, Tarakasura started torturing the gods and sages. After which everyone together prayed to Lord Shiva to end Taadakasura.
Finding himself close to death, Tarakasura apologized to Shiva and Shiva forgave him and said that in Kaliyuga, people will worship him in your name only. Since then this place came to be known as Tadkeshwar Mahadev. According to another legend, there used to be a sage who used to punish those who harassed the animals and birds living here. By whose name this temple of Mahadev became famous by the name Tadkeshwar Mahadev.
According to folk beliefs, after killing Tarakasura, Shiva started resting here. During this time, Mother Parvati got distracted after seeing the strong rays of the sun and she herself appeared there in the form of seven cedar trees and started giving shade to Shiva. Since then, the seven cedar trees located near the temple are considered to be the form of Parvati and are worshiped even today. It is believed that even today Parvati is present here in the form of a shadow. This Tarakeshwar temple has also been described by the great poet Kalidas in the second phase of his composition Raghuvansh Khandakavya.
In Ramayana, Tadkeshwar Dham has been called a divine and holy ashram. In the same Tadkeshwar Mahadev Temple complex, there is a trident-shaped cedar tree which further strengthens people’s faith in Shiva. It is believed that whoever comes here with a true wish never goes empty handed.
Omkareshwar Temple
Omkareshwar Temple is situated in Ukhimath of Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand which is the winter residence of Baba Kedar and Madhyamaheshwar. Here Baba Kedar and Madhyamhesh are worshiped for 6 months. It is believed that if any person is not able to visit Kedarnath and Madhyamaheshwar and have darshan of Lord Shiva, he comes to Omkareshwar temple during winter and has darshan of Baba Kedar and Madhyamaheshwar, his journey to all four Dhams is completed. Shivalingas of Panchkedaras are also installed in Omkareshwar temple. Those who are not able to have darshan of Panchkedara, they go to Omkareshwar temple and have darshan of Panchkedara and their journey to Panchkedara is also considered successful.
Lakhamandal
Do you know about any such abode of Shiva where even a dead person becomes alive? Yes, there is such a temple situated in Devbhoomi Uttarakhand where even the dead become alive. The famous Shiva temple Lakhamandal is situated at a place named Bernigad, about 128 kilometers from Dehradun. It is said about this place that even the dead become alive here.
Lakhamandal literally means many Shivalingas or many temples. There are many Shivalingas installed in this temple which are red, green, black and white in colour. Each Shivalinga established here is said to be from a different era. Like the white Shivlinga of Satyayuga, the red Shivlinga of Tretayuga and the green Shivlinga of Dwaparyuga. There is also such a strange Shivalinga present in Lakhamandal in which as soon as water is poured, it shows you your reflection clearly. As if he is making you face to face with your truth.
At the back of the temple in Lakhamandal, there are statues of two gatekeepers named Nandi and Bringi. It is believed that if a dead person is placed in front of these two gatekeepers and holy water is sprinkled on him, then the dead body becomes alive for some time. After this, he leaves his body after eating milk and rice. But now this practice has ended.
Lakhamandal is such a mysterious land where the story will astonish you and also force you to think whether a dead person can really come alive or can someone be brought back to the earthly world from the otherworldly world.
