Center gave big responsibility to former Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand SS Sandhu, made Election Commissioner
Former Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand, Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu has been made the Election Commissioner of the Election Commission of India (ECI). The appointment of Dr. Sandhu to one of the most prestigious posts in the country is a matter of pride for Uttarakhand. Let us tell you that he was an officer of Uttarakhand cadre of 1988 batch. He was made the Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand in 2021. He retired on 31 January 2024. After retirement, in view of his long administrative experience, he was given the important responsibility of the post of Secretary in the Lokpal Office. Now, Dr. Sandhu is one of the two former IAS officers who have been appointed Election Commissioner by the high-level committee headed by the Prime Minister. He has served in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab.
Emphasis on administrative reforms
Dr. Sandhu’s tenure as Chief Secretary has been remarkable. He worked on linking the functioning of governance with information technology. Instead of traditional methods, an environment of administrative work was created with hi-tech means. Dr. Sandhu laid special emphasis on implementing the vision of e-file system from secretariat to departments, directorates and districts and tehsils. For the first time during his tenure, a roadmap for Strong Uttarakhand was prepared in the brainstorming camp of Cabinet and IAS officers in Uttarakhand, on which the Dhami government is moving forward rapidly.
Monitoring of reconstruction works of Kedarnath
Dr. Sandhu was responsible for monitoring the works of the Prime Minister’s dream project Kedarnath Reconstruction Project in the state. The Prime Minister’s Office remained in direct contact with Dr. Sandhu for information about the progress of the project.
Special focus on Delhi-Doon Express Highway
While being the Chairman of NHAI, Dr. Sandhu not only got the express highway from Delhi to Dehradun approved, but even after becoming the Chief Secretary, with his efforts, work on it was done at a fast pace.
