7 personnel including 2 Pak Army officers killed in terrorist attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, search operation continues for terrorists
Seven Pakistani Army soldiers, including two officers, were killed in a multiple suicide attack by six terrorists on a security check post in the restive tribal district of North Waziristan, bordering Afghanistan. The Army informed about this on Saturday.
Death of Lieutenant Colonel and a Captain
Five soldiers, including a Lieutenant Colonel and a Captain, were killed. All six terrorists who attacked the check post in Mir Ali area were killed. According to the ISPR statement, after troops foiled an initial infiltration attempt, terrorists rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the post, which was followed by multiple suicide bomb attacks.
Six terrorists killed
During the subsequent elimination operation, the troops engaged effectively and killed all six terrorists. The statement said Lieutenant Colonel Syed Kashif Ali and Captain Muhammad Ahmed Badar were killed during the deadly exchange of fire. The army’s media wing said a sanitization operation was being carried out to eliminate all other terrorists present in the area.
789 terrorist attacks last year
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur condemned the attack and expressed grief over the death of the soldiers. Pakistan witnessed 789 terror attacks and counter-terrorism operations resulting in 1,524 violence-related deaths and 1,463 injuries in 2023, the highest in six years on record, according to an annual security report released by the Center for Research and Security Studies.
According to news agency PTI, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces were the primary epicenter of violence, where more than 90 percent of the deaths occurred and 84 percent of the attacks took place, including incidents of terrorism and security forces operations.
