Uttarakhand: Big blow to Congress on Tehri parliamentary seat due to two former MLAs leaving the party!

On the occasion of Lok Sabha elections, Congress’s troubles in Uttarakhand are showing no sign of abating. Two former MLAs of Uttarkashi district, Vijaypal Singh Sajwan and Malchand resigned from the party on Friday. This is being seen as a big setback for the party in Tehri parliamentary constituency. It is believed that both the former MLAs may join BJP on Saturday.

Heavy to hold on to leaders

It is becoming difficult for Congress to retain its leaders in the state. The effect of frustration arising from defeat in two consecutive Lok Sabha elections and two assembly elections seems to be increasing instead of subsiding before the announcement of the next Lok Sabha elections. Manish Khanduri, a strong contender for the ticket from Garhwal parliamentary seat, left Congress and joined BJP before the ticket was announced.

The party has declared candidates for the parliamentary seats of Tehri, Garhwal and Almora three days ago. Now Vijaypal Singh Sajwan, former MLA of Uttarkashi district under Tehri parliamentary constituency, announced his resignation from the party on Friday. Sajwan has been an MLA from Gangotri assembly constituency.

His image in the party has been that of a strong leader. Has sent his resignation letter to State Congress President Karan Mahara. In this, it has been said that he has to resign citing personal reasons.

Possibility of joining BJP

Former MLA Malchand of Uttarkashi district has sent his resignation letter to the state Congress President. Malchand had left BJP after not getting ticket from Purola assembly constituency in the 2022 assembly elections. Malchand Purola has been MLA from reserved seat. Both the former MLAs are likely to join BJP on Saturday.
