Glaciers are melting, the earth is in danger of extinction; United Nations warning on rising heat
Last year the heat broke all records. This has been confirmed in the recent report of the United Nations. The UN’s World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has released this report on Tuesday. According to this report, there was extreme heat in the year 2023 and it was recorded as the hottest year. During this period, there were many heat waves, the effect of which was visible from the sea to the glacier. According to WMO, not only 2023, but the entire decade from 2014 to 2023 is in the grip of severe heat. UN chief Antonio Guterres has even said that the report shows that the Earth is on the verge of danger.
Stern warning
The United Nations Chief has issued a strong warning regarding this. He said that change is happening very fast. There are continuous signals of danger coming from the earth.
According to the WMO report, last year the average surface temperature was 1.45 degrees Celsius more than the level. Let us tell you that the limit set in the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement is 1.5 degrees. According to the report, this is a red alert situation. The most shocking thing is that last year the marine heatwave affected one-third of the world’s oceans. By the end of 2023, this figure had reached 90 percent.
Rising sea levels
The rising sea level has also been mentioned in the report. The reason behind this has also been said to be rising temperature. According to this, due to increasing heat, glaciers are melting rapidly. WMO has reported that in the last decade (2014-2023), sea level rose at twice the speed compared to the previous decade. The report also states that such climate change is causing problems all over the world. Due to this, cases of extreme heat, floods and drought are coming to the fore.
