These include India, China and Persian Gulf countries. Russian policy makers have now started focusing on this southern route. The most important thing in this is the 160 km long railway line. Work on this $1.7 billion line is expected to start this year. This will connect Russia directly to Iran’s ports. This will make his access to Mumbai easier. Russia has agreed to give a loan of $1.4 billion to Iran for this project.
All roads closed
According to a New York Times report, Baku’s transport and logistics expert Rauf Agamirajayev said that Russia’s traditional trade routes have been closed, so it has to look for other options. Russia is adopting many methods to overcome Western sanctions. For example, machinery is being imported from India while other types of goods are also being imported from Turkey and Gulf countries. Even European goods are reaching Russia through third countries.

After the Ukraine war, Russia’s trade with China has increased by 61 percent to $240 billion.

The trade between India and Russia has increased four times compared to 2021 to reach $65 billion. Russia’s trade with India and China has overtaken its trade with the European Union. There was trade worth $282 billion between Russia and the European Union in 2021. India is importing large quantities of crude oil from Russia.
What will be the benefit?
The new railway line will connect two cities of Iran, Astara and Rasht. This will connect Iran to Azerbaijan in the north and thus give it access to the Russian Railways grid. This rail line is expected to be completed in 2028. In this way this entire stretch will be 6,920 km long. Russian businessmen will have easy access to India through Iranian ports in the Persian Gulf. Besides, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Pakistan can also be easily reached.
