Uttarakhand: Five former CMs rested, election saga of new era being written in BJP

By canceling the tickets of two veteran leaders Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Tirath Singh Rawat in the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP sent a clear message that a new phase has now begun in the party. Today the party has changed the role of these two veterans who were warriors of electoral Kurukshetra.
Political experts believe that at the age stage in which Dr. Nishank and Tirath are, it will be challenging for them to maintain themselves at the top. Circumstances have also changed. He has to play the role of a charioteer on the same campaign chariot on which he was planning to coin a new phrase in electoral politics by riding on it in the parliamentary elections.
This is not the first time such an incident has happened in BJP. At one time, former CM Major General BC Khanduri and Bhagat Singh Koshyari were the two big poles of BJP politics. After some time, former Chief Minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank became the third pole. BJP’s politics remained centered between these three poles. Times changed and the era of two of the three political stalwarts of BJP, Khanduri and Koshyari, ended.
Big sign of new trend starting
Today both these former Chief Ministers are confined to their resting places. The way the party rested Dr. Nishank and Tirath Singh Rawat and replaced them with former CM Trivendra Singh Rawat from Haridwar seat and Anil Baluni from Garhwal seat, that in itself is a big sign of the beginning of a new trend within the BJP. giving.
Political experts say that now it will not be very easy for the elderly leaders in BJP to maintain their top position and to come back once they have slipped down. Trivendra Singh Rawat is an example of this. After stepping down from the post of CM, the party did not give him any important responsibility and after a long wait, he got the Lok Sabha ticket.
Five former CMs no longer have any work
There are currently six former Chief Ministers in BJP and five of them do not have any major work in the organization at present. Aged Major General BC Khanduri is far away from mainstream politics due to health reasons. There has been no activity from him for the last few years. Former Governor and former Chief Minister Bhagat Singh Koshyari is also on rest. Although he has remained active in social activities, his role in the organization is now that of a guide. Former CM Vijay Bahuguna is also limited to only a few major programs of the party. The responsibility of his political activism is now being carried out by his son Saurabh Bahuguna Dhami in the cabinet.
Political veterans Dr. Nishank and Tirath Singh Rawat still have a lot of political career left, but they will have to sweat a lot to make a comeback within the organization. In fact, along with being a big political party, a large army of veteran faces has also gathered in BJP. In such a situation, to regain his old status in the organization, he will have to compete with promising leaders from the other ranks.
Many aging veterans will migrate by 2027
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP may have experimented with fielding new faces on only two seats, but by canceling the tickets of two former Chief Ministers, the party has signaled the beginning of a new era. Dr. Nishank is an influential face of Uttarakhand politics. He has influence in Garhwal and Kumaon. He has a good number of supporters in both the divisions. Former CM Tirath Singh Rawat also has his own influence. In the role of State President and Organization General Secretary, he has created a distinct identity among the workers. In this sense, it may certainly be challenging for both the leaders to make a comeback, but it is not impossible.
Experts believe that by the time the assembly elections are held in 2027, many old veterans will have fled from mainstream politics, because there are many faces in the first row in BJP, who have either become the successors of old politicians or Ready to be made. In such a situation, Dr. Nishank and Tirath will be faced with the challenge of keeping themselves useful till the next assembly elections.
Now these are the new poles of state politics
Once in the state, BJP was identified with three political satraps Khanduri-Koshyari-Nishank. Now there are many satraps in the party. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is a young face. BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt, Union Minister of State for Defense Ajay Bhatt, BJP national media in-charge Anil Baluni, Ajay Tamta, Trivendra Singh Rawat are the leaders of the first line of BJP politics and are being established as the new power centre.
Leaders of the other party are also ready
Not only the first tier, a long army of second tier leaders also stands ready in the BJP. In the Lok Sabha elections, many male and female leaders from the other party have tried to make their existence felt by claiming tickets. In the coming period, all these leaders will be seen challenging the first line leaders of BJP with their political power.
