The sourness between Pakistan and China may increase after the death of five Chinese citizens in a suicide attack in Pakistan. After halting work on Tarbela hydropower project a day earlier citing security reasons following the incident, the Chinese construction company has also suspended work on Dasu and Diamer-Bhasha hydropower projects.
Meanwhile, Chinese investigators reached Pakistan on Friday to probe the death of its citizens. At the same time, China’s army has said that it is ready to help Pakistan in fighting terrorism. China has lodged a strong protest regarding the safety of Chinese citizens working in Chinese projects run in Pakistan.
China puts pressure on Pakistan to take action against the attackers
It has put pressure on Pakistan to take immediate action against those attacking Chinese citizens. Local employees working at Dasu Dam and Diamer-Bhasha hydropower projects have been asked to stay at home until further orders. However, Chinese engineers are continuing work on the Mohmand Dam in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
Five Chinese citizens died on Tuesday
It is noteworthy that on Tuesday, a vehicle laden with explosives hit a bus carrying workers of Dasu Hydroelectric Project in Bisham area of Shangla district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. Six people, including five Chinese citizens, were killed in this.
China will help Pakistan in fighting terrorism
Here, Pakistan’s Home Ministry has said that Chinese investigators have arrived to investigate the death of Chinese citizens. At the same time, China’s Ministry of National Defense spokesperson Wu Qian has said that with the desire for stability and peace in the region, China can help Pakistan in fighting terrorism.
