UN court orders Israel to provide uninterrupted aid to Gaza
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague has ordered Israel to take all possible steps to ensure that all basic aid reaches the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip. The ICJ said in its decision on Thursday, “Israel All necessary and effective measures should be taken without delay, in full cooperation with the United Nations, to deliver urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance.”
These include food, water, electricity, fuel, shelter, clothing, sanitation as well as medical supplies and care for Palestinians throughout Gaza.”
According to Xinhua news agency, this decision is different from the January 26 decision, in which the ICJ ordered Israel to take all possible measures to stop acts of genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
On 29 December 2023, South Africa filed an application at the ICJ for proceedings against Israel under the 1948 Genocide Convention with respect to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
The court said that life for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip has worsened, particularly due to the long-standing widespread shortage of food and other basic necessities faced by Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
