Five personalities including Narasimha Rao, Advani, Karpoori Thakur received Bharat Ratna, President honored

President Murmu today honored five personalities selected by the Government of India with Bharat Ratna at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also participated in this program. President Murmu has honored freedom fighter and former PM Chaudhary Charan Singh, former PM Narasimha Rao, former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani, former Bihar CM Karpuri Thakur and agricultural scientist MA Swaminathan with the country’s highest honor Bharat Ratna.

No one was given Bharat Ratna from 2020 to 2023, but for 2014, the Central Government chose these five personalities. In this ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, except Vice President Lal Krishna Advani, other four personalities were awarded Bharat Ratna posthumously. Former PM Narasimha Rao’s grandson NV Subhash praised the central government for its decision to honor him with Bharat Ratna.

While talking to the media, he took a dig at Congress and said, Narasimha Rao was rich in versatile talent. Be it for Andhra Pradesh or the Centre, he took bold steps many times. The situation was very bad when he became Prime Minister. When the Congress Party was in power from 2004 to 2014, neither the party nor the Gandhi family ever remembered his contributions. PM Modi remembered his contributions and honored him with Bharat Ratna.”

Who was Narasimha Rao?
Narasimha Rao is called Chanakya of politics. He became the PM of the country after spending 50 years in the Congress Party. Rao could speak in about 10 different languages. He was also considered a master in translation.

Who was Chaudhary Charan Singh?
Born in a middle-class farmer family in Noorpur in Meerut district, Charan Singh was the fifth PM of India. He graduated in science in 1923 and obtained a master’s degree from Agra University in 1925. After returning to Meerut in 1929, he joined Congress.

Bharat Ratna to Lal Krishna Advani
Lal Krishna Advani has been a senior leader of India and the seventh Deputy Prime Minister of the country. He was born in 1927 in a Hindu Sindhi family in Karachi, Pakistan. Advani has held the post of Deputy Prime Minister of India in the government of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Before this, he had also been the Home Minister in the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance between 1998 and 2004. Lal Krishna Advani is among those who laid the foundation of the Bharatiya Janata Party. During the 10th and 14th Lok Sabha, he played the role of leader of the opposition very well. In 2015, he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian honour.

Who was Karpoori Thakur
Karpoori Thakur is considered a leader who ignited the flame of social justice in the politics of Bihar. Karpoori Thakur was born in an ordinary barber family. He did anti-Congress politics all his life and achieved his political position. Even during the Emergency, despite all efforts, Indira Gandhi could not get him arrested. His granddaughter expressed happiness on receiving the honour.

Who is MS Swaminath?
MS Swaminath was a renowned agricultural scientist. He was born in 1925 in Madras Presidency. During the Second World War, there was a severe famine in Bengal in 1943, which shook him. In view of this, he obtained the degree of Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Science from Madras Agricultural College in 1944. Received a master’s degree in cytogenetics in 1949. He did his research on potatoes. Swaminathan has been honored with many national and international awards for his work.
