A part of the roof of Guwahati Airport collapsed after heavy rain, no casualties

Heavy rains on Sunday, 31 March have caused heavy devastation in the northeastern states. 4 people have died in West Bengal due to heavy rains and hailstorms, while more than 100 people are reported to be injured. Meanwhile, big news is coming from Assam… Actually, severe storm and heavy rains have affected Guwahati’s popular Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. Due to this rain, a part of the ceiling of the outer roof of the airport collapsed. Not only this, due to heavy rains, the airport authority has stopped operations and six flights are reported to be diverted to other destinations.

Airport roof ceiling collapsed

An airport official told media agency ANI that six flights have been diverted. The official said, a large tree got uprooted which caused a blockage on a road connecting the airport, but the road was immediately cleared for smooth supply of fuel to the terminal. The official further said that water is leaking inside the airport due to overflow of the outlet pipe. He said, a part of the ceiling of the outside roof blew away, however the situation is normal now.

Six flights diverted

The Guwahati Airport Authority said that operations have now resumed normally. Due to heavy rain and wind, flight operations were affected due to adverse weather conditions this evening. The approach road was blocked due to uprooted trees… The roof outlets were blown away in large quantities and water filled inside the terminal building. Outside the terminal building, a small part of the roof opened due to water and air pressure. However, there were no injuries or damages in the accident. A total of six flights were diverted to Agartala and Kolkata due to adverse weather conditions, operations are now normal.
