Shahbaz Sharif got scared when China threatened to send army, said – we will provide security at any cost
Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Monday that his government will protect Chinese citizens working in the country at any cost. Sharif’s statement has come at a time when China is angry over the death of five Chinese engineers in a terrorist attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa a few days ago. A day earlier, China had made it clear to Pakistan that if it is not able to protect Chinese citizens, then it will do it itself. Pakistani media reports said that China wants to send its army to protect its citizens.
China upset over death of loved ones in terrorist attack
On March 26, a suicide bomber targeted a convoy of Chinese engineers with a vehicle laden with explosives in the Besham area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Five Chinese engineers and one of their Pakistani drivers were killed in the attack. All Chinese citizens were working in Dasu Hydropower Project. The terrorist attack took place when a group of Chinese nationals were going to Dasu from Islamabad. Pakistan had formed an investigation committee to investigate the incident but China did not trust it and also sent its own investigation team. The Chinese investigation team claimed that the terrorists got the opportunity to attack only because of security lapses on Pakistan’s part.
After repeated insults from China, on Monday, April 1, Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif reached Dasu and tried to reassure the Chinese citizens working there. Addressing the Chinese citizens working in the power project, Sharif said, the Government of Pakistan will ensure that the criminals responsible for the March 26 terrorist attack are given such punishment so that they can become an example and no one does such attacks in future.
Sharif described the terrorist attack as an attempt to damage the friendship between Pakistan and China. He said, this was a cowardly action which was carried out to kill innocent Chinese citizens and a Pakistani. There was no other reason for this other than harming the special friendship between China and Pakistan.
