Section 144 imposed in Leh, internet shut down in Ladakh
Section 114 has been imposed in Leh district of the Union Territory of Ladakh. Leh District Magistrate (DM) Santosh Sukhdev has issued an order in this regard. Leh Police said that violation of the DM’s order will attract punitive action under the law. Section 144 has been imposed in Leh district, prohibiting any procession, rally or march. To prevent any disturbance and ensure safety of human life, Section 144 of CrPC 1973 has been imposed, “the order issued by the District Magistrate, Leh read.”
This comes just days ahead of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk’s planned ‘Pashmina March’ on the lines of Mahatma Gandhi’s Dandi March in areas near the Line of Actual Control on April 7. The march aims to highlight alleged Chinese intrusion into Ladakh’s pasture areas used by Pashmina shepherds and expose the ground reality in the ecologically fragile region.
