You don’t need to worry… S Jaishankar tells UN official who commented on India’s elections

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has responded to the United Nations. On Thursday he said that there is no need for the UN to tell that there should be free and fair elections in the country, you do not need to worry about it. Jaishankar was campaigning in support of BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate Rajiv Chandrashekhar, during which he rejected the UN official’s statement on elections in India. He said that an absurd statement had come out during a UN press conference last week.

The Foreign Minister said, ‘I do not need to tell the UN that our elections should be free and fair. The people of India are with me. The people of India will ensure that the elections are free and fair. So, don’t worry about it.

UN official gave statement
Last week, the spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric was asked about the political unrest in India ahead of the upcoming national elections in the wake of the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the seizure of the opposition Congress Party’s bank accounts. Dujarric had said, ‘We are very hopeful that in India, as in any country with elections, everyone’s rights, including political and civil rights, will be protected and everyone will be able to vote in a free and fair environment. ‘

‘India will give a strong reply’
Earlier, Jaishankar also asked other countries to avoid making political statements on India’s internal matters otherwise there will be a very strong response from India. Responding to a question about the comments of US and German diplomats on the recent arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the External Affairs Minister said India has made it very clear that it opposes such statements. .

‘Do not interfere in internal matters’
He said, ‘Someone asked a UN person (possibly a diplomat) (about Kejriwal’s arrest), and he gave some answer. But, in other cases, I would say very clearly that these are old habits, these are bad habits. There is a relationship (limitation) between countries. We are independent countries, we should not interfere in each other’s internal affairs, and we should not comment about each other’s politics.

The External Affairs Minister further said that in international relations there are certain etiquettes, traditions and practices that should be followed. If any country comments on Indian politics, it will get a very strong reply from the government. We sincerely urge all the countries of the world that certainly you have your views about the world, but no country has the right to comment on the politics of another country, especially in such circumstances.
