This time, third generation EVMs developed through modern technology will be used in the Lok Sabha elections. This EVM cannot be tampered or hacked. The Election Commission of India had introduced the third generation Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in the year 2018. It was named Mark-3 EVM. According to the Election Commission, third generation EVMs cannot be tampered with in any way. Mark-III EVMs have a chip installed in them, programming of which is not possible.

According to the Commission, if someone tries to tamper with the EVM, it will automatically lock. Also, Chick’s coding can neither be read nor rewritten. Mark-III EVMs cannot be controlled through the Internet or any other network. Even if someone tries to open the EVM with a screw, it will still be locked.

Electronics Corporation of India Ltd. And Bharat Electronics Ltd. This advanced EVM made by EVM has special features like dynamic coding and real time clock. Therefore it cannot be hacked. Its control unit and ballot unit are specified with special software. If any other control unit is installed in it, the digital signatures will not match and the machine will become inoperative.

Features of Mark-III EVM

According to the Election Commission, Mark-III EVMs will have 24 ballot units and information about 384 candidates. The old EVM had information about only four ballot units and 64 candidates. There will be no problem if the number of candidates increases in any constituency. Earlier, if the number of candidates in any constituency exceeded 64, then elections for that seat had to be conducted through ballot paper.

According to the Commission, in case of minor malfunction, this EVM repairs it itself. If any fault occurs, the software itself shows it on the display screen. The tamper detect feature locks the Mark-3 EVM if it is tampered with.

History of EVM in India

In the year 1979, Bharat Electronics Limited and Electronics Corporation of India Limited jointly developed EVM. The first generation EVM Mark-1 was developed between 1989 and 2006. It was last used in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. The second generation EVM Mark-2 was prepared between 2006 and 2012. Features like real time clock and dynamic coding were added in the second version of EVM. After this, EVM Mark-3 was launched in 2018. The Commission had planned to use it in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections itself.
