Gujarat Police detained Karni Sena leader Raj Shekhawat

Gujarat Police on Tuesday detained Kshatriya Karni Sena Parivar national convenor Raj Shekhawat at Ahmedabad airport. Raj Shekhawat was taken to Ahmedabad by cyber crime officials for questioning. According to a senior police officer, Shekhawat was questioned in connection with the recent threats of Jauhar issued by some Rajput women.
Raj Shekhawat had recently opened a front regarding the controversial statement of BJP candidate Parshottam Rupala. He said he had resigned from the BJP because the party had refused to cancel the candidature of Rajkot BJP candidate Parshottam Rupala over his controversial comments against the Kshatriya community. However, Gujarat BJP officials said that Shekhawat was never a member of the BJP.
Raj Shekhawat had warned on Sunday that members of the Kshatriya community would attack Shri Kamalam, the Gujarat BJP headquarters in Gandhinagar. Along with this, he had appealed on social media to the people of Kshatriya community to gather at the BJP headquarters with saffron flags on April 9 at 2 pm. Actually, the whole uproar is going on over the controversial statement given by BJP candidate Parshottam Rupala on Kshatriya community. People of Rajput community have demanded BJP to withdraw Rupala’s candidature.
It is noteworthy that while speaking at a meeting in Rajkot on March 22, Parshottam Rupala had said that the former Maharajas had surrendered before the oppression of foreign rulers. He dined with these rulers and also married his daughters to these rulers. There is huge anger in the Kshatriya community regarding this statement of Rupala. State BJP leaders say that the matter is now over after Rupala has publicly apologized for her remarks.
Even Gujarat BJP President CR Patil had appealed to the Kshatriya community on April 2 to forgive Rupala. He had said that with folded hands I pray to the Kshatriya community that a mistake has been made. Apologies have been issued thrice for this mistake. Now, the Kshatriya community should also give up anger. Time has come for Kshatriya community to continue their support towards BJP. This class has consistently supported BJP in all the previous elections.
