Uttarakhand: Iceberg breaks on Kedarnath walking route, movement disrupted, snow removal work underway

The doors of Kedarnath Dham are to be opened on 10th May. In such a situation, preparations have been started by the administration for the Yatra to Kedarnath Dham. Meanwhile, the Gaurikund-Kedarnath foot route was blocked due to breaking of iceberg in Kuber Gadere. Snow has spread to about 100 meter area on the way.

Let us tell you that last Tuesday, the upper part of the iceberg spread over Kuber Gadere on the footpath collapsed. Due to which tons of snow spread over a 100 meter wide portion of the road. The speed of breaking of the iceberg was so fast that the ice crossed the road and reached the deep ditch within a short time.

It may take so much time to remove snow
It was fortunate that during this time there was no movement of horses and mules on the footpath. Otherwise a major accident could have happened. According to the information, Vinay Jhikwan, Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department, said that there was no movement from both sides on the road during the avalanche incident. The snow from the affected area will be removed in the next four to five days.

Electricity, drinking water lines damaged due to snowfall
According to the information, Rudraprayag District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar said that there is snowfall in Kedarnath Dham every day in the afternoon, due to which the workers engaged in snow removal are also facing problems. He said that electricity and drinking water lines on the footpath have been damaged due to snowfall. Whose treatment work is also being started.
