Shiva is worshiped in the form of Nabhi Lingam in Madhyamaheshwar
Madhyamaheshwar is situated near Ukhimath in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. Here Shiva is worshiped in the form of Nabhi Lingam. Some legends even say that Shiva and Parvati, enchanted by the beauty of this place, had celebrated their Madhuchandra Ratri here.
It is also said about Madmaheshwar that just a few drops of the holy water here is enough for salvation. Along with this, it is said that whoever listens or reads the greatness of Madmaheshwar, with or without devotion, attains the abode of Shiva without doing anything else. Along with this, if anyone offers Pind Daan here, up to a hundred of his descendants get immersed.
Tungnath is the abode of Shiva situated at the highest altitude in the world
Tungnath, the highest abode of Shiva in the world, is situated at an altitude of 3680 meters above sea level in Rudraprayag district. Along with Lord Shiva, Bhagwati, Umadevi and eleven minor goddesses are also worshiped in Tungnath. These goddesses are also called Dualiya in the local language. In the month of Magh, Tungnath’s Dola or Diwara is taken out and travels around Panchkoti villages. This dola is also accompanied by musical instruments and horse-drawn carriages.
According to mythological belief, the arm of Lord Shiva is worshiped in Tunganath. It is believed that Ravana had pleased Lord Shiva by doing penance at this place and in return Bhole Baba had given him incomparable arm strength. As a symbol of this incident, Ravanashila and Ravana Math are also there.
