Chhirkani glacier slipped in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, Munsiyari Milam road closed, people worried on China border.

The road has been closed due to glacier sliding at Chirkani near Mapang on Munsiyari Milam road. The ITBP deployed on the China border and the rural roads of 13 villages adjoining the area are troubled by the closure. A glacier suddenly broke near Chhirkani on the road connecting the China border.
Glacier broke in Pithoragarh
The route has been blocked due to breaking of the glacier. People of 13 villages including Rilkot, Samtu, Johar Valley, Tola, Ganghar, Ralam are facing problems due to closure of the road. These days there is migration from these villages, in which a large number of sheep herders live here. They are facing problems due to road closure. The entire route is closed due to the arrival of glacier. There is no route even on foot.
Road closed due to breaking of glacier
People who came to the villages to vote three days ago are now facing trouble in going back. People have demanded from the district administration to open the road soon. The snow removal work has been started by BRO. But due to the large amount of snow coming, there is difficulty in removing it. Tehsil administration has instructed BRO to open the road soon.
Glaciers move in summer
Last year too, due to extreme heat in the month of May, the roads were closed due to slipping of glaciers at many places on the Milam route. In the past, incidents of glacier sliding have been more frequent in the months of May and June. But this time the glacier slipped in April itself. With the continuous increase in heat, incidents of snow melting and glacier sliding have already started happening in the high Himalayan regions.
