Election Commission’s statement on delay in releasing final voting figures, read, what it said

The Election Commission, which is facing criticism from the opposition parties for the delay in releasing the final voting figures for the first two phases of the Lok Sabha elections, has given a big statement on Friday. The Election Commission has issued a statement on this issue saying that it gives due importance to timely release of voting figures. A press release issued by the Commission said that the number of voters arriving at each polling station is recorded in Form 17C. For transparency, copies of Form 17C duly signed by the Presiding Officer and all present polling agents are shared with all present polling agents.

EC steps up initiatives to increase voter participation

The Election Commission said in the statement that in this way, not only the constituency wise voting data but also the booth wise voting data is available to the candidates, which is a statutory requirement. The statement said that the Commission gives due importance to the timely release of voting percentage figures after each phase of voting. The Election Commission said in the statement that disclosure and transparency are important in its functioning. The Election Commission has intensified initiatives to increase voter participation in view of the slight decline in voting in the first two phases of the Lok Sabha elections.

Election Commission is making efforts to increase the voting percentage

Let us tell you that in the first phase, 66.14 percent voting took place while in the second phase, 66.71 percent voting took place. This is slightly less than the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. According to the Commission, it has focused all its attention on increasing the voting percentage of voters. The Commission is disappointed with the level of voting percentage in some metros in the second phase of voting process, which is indicative of extreme apathy in India’s high-tech cities. Before the next phase, the Commission will maintain constant contact with the administration of the respective cities. According to the Meteorological Department, heat is not a major concern for the third phase of general elections to be held on May 7.
