BJP government will not change the preamble of the Constitution, reservation will remain intact – Rajnath

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that the BJP government will never change the Constitution nor end reservation. He accused Congress of creating fear and spreading misinformation for vote bank politics.
In an interview, Rajnath Singh accused Congress of spreading the rumor that if BJP remains in power, it will change the Constitution. Singh especially emphasized that there is no question of changing the Preamble of the Constitution.
At the same time, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been alleging that if BJP remains in power, it will tear the Constitution and throw it away. Apart from this, some other Congress officials have expressed apprehension that BJP may remove the word secular from the Preamble of the Constitution. On this the Defense Minister said, ‘Congress amended the Constitution 80 times. They changed the Preamble during the Emergency.’ Singh said, ‘BJP will not change the Constitution. The makers of the Constitution never thought that there would be any change in the Preamble. You (Congress) have harmed the basic idea of the Constitution.
Rajnath Singh said that there is no question of changing the Preamble of the Constitution. They changed it and now they (Congress) are making baseless allegations against us,’ the Preamble of the Constitution of India presents the principles of the Constitution. In the year 1976, under the 42nd Amendment, the introduction of India was changed from ‘Sovereign Democratic Republic’ to ‘Sovereign Socialist Secular Democratic Republic’.
He said that they (Congress) are trying to gain people’s support by creating fear among the citizens. He said, ‘I want to suggest that they should try to gain people’s support by building trust and not by creating fear. Election campaign should be based on facts.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had alleged on Friday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP and RSS are continuously attacking the country’s democracy and want to destroy the Constitution of India. On this, the Defense Minister said, ‘Congress is creating an atmosphere of fear’ and spreading false rumors for vote bank politics.
He also accused Congress of misleading the country on the issue of reservation. Singh said, ‘Congress is trying to mislead the people. Reservation will not end. They are making false allegations against us.’ Congress has asked BJP leaders to clarify the party’s stand on whether it will remove the 50 percent limit on reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes. When Congress asked for clarification, Singh said, ‘We will not tamper with reservation at all.’
