Preparations for the civic elections in Uttarakhand are going on in full swing. In this regard, the final decision is yet to be taken on the reservation system for the bodies. The single-member commission formed for this has also submitted its report to the government. After the final approval on reservation, the final process of civic elections will also be started.

At present, the date for civic elections has not been decided in the state. It is believed that after the results of Lok Sabha elections are declared this year, the date for elections in the state will be finalized. Before this, a decision is yet to be taken on reservation for civic elections in the state. A dedicated commission was formed for this, which has also sent its report regarding reservation to the government. There is also news that the government has also given the green signal to the commission’s report.

After the report of the dedicated commission on reservation, it is believed that now the new system of reservation for municipal elections will be implemented in the state. In this, seats can be decided as per the reservation decided by the Commission for the seats of Municipal Corporation, Municipality, Nagar Panchayat.

Mathematics of reservation for civic elections

There are 9 municipal corporations in Uttarakhand. In which according to the possible reservation for the post of Mayor, two seats can be reserved for OBC while one seat can be reserved for SC. Similarly, three seats can be reserved for women reservation.
Reservation for 100 wards present in the Municipal Corporation of the capital Dehradun has also been mentioned in the report. In this, 12 seats are to be reserved for SC, one seat for ST and 12 seats for OBC. There are preparations to give reservation to women on 34 seats.
There are 41 seats for Municipal Council in the state. In which for the post of President, 6 seats will be reserved for SC, 12 seats for OBC and one seat for ST. On the other hand, if we look at women’s reservation, a total of 14 seats will be reserved for women.
There are total 45 Panchayats in Nagar Panchayat. In which 6 seats will be reserved for SC and 16 seats for OBC for the post of President. 15 seats are also to be reserved for women.
