Russia: Vladimir Putin took oath as President for the 5th time, many countries including Britain and Canada boycotted the swearing-in ceremony
Vladimir Putin has become the President of Russia for the 5th time. President Vladimir Putin was sworn in for a new six-year term at a Kremlin ceremony on Tuesday. The swearing-in ceremony was boycotted by the United States and many other Western countries because of Russia’s war in Ukraine.
Putin took the oath in 33 words at the Grand Kremlin Palace in Moscow. This is the same place where three kings of the Tsar family of Russia (Alexander 2, Alexander 3 and Nicholas 2) were crowned. Putin had earlier taken the oath of office for the first time in the year 2000. Since then, he has also become President in 2004, 2012 and 2018.
Putin, in power as president and prime minister since 1999, is starting his new term more than two years after sending thousands of troops into Ukraine.
