Athletics: India’s Diksha created a record, made a new national record in women’s 1500 meter race
Indian track athlete KM Diksha set a new national record in the women’s 1500m at the Sound Running Track Festival in Los Angeles. At the same time, Avinash Sable finished second in the men’s 5000m event. Diksha finished second in 4 minutes 4.78 seconds in the competition held on Saturday. The 25-year-old broke the record of Harmilan Bains who set the record with a time of 4 minutes 5.39 seconds at the National Athletics Championships in Warangal in 2021.
Diksha, who hails from Amroha in Uttar Pradesh, had a previous best performance of 4 minutes 6.07 seconds which she achieved in the final of the National Inter-State Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar in 2023. In the women’s 5000m race, Parul Chaudhary finished fifth with a timing of 15 minutes 10.69 seconds while Ankita finished tenth in the same event with a timing of 15 minutes 28.88 seconds.
Sable finished second in the men’s 5000m race with a timing of 13 minutes 20.37 seconds. Another Indian player participating in this event, Gulveer Singh, completed the race in 13 minutes 31.95 seconds. Sable’s national record in 5000m race is 13 minutes 19.30 seconds. Kartik Kumar finished second in the men’s 10000m race with a timing of 28 minutes 7.66 seconds.
