Police shot down four TTP terrorists in Pakistan’s Punjab
Four terrorists of the banned terrorist organization ‘Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’ (TTP) have been killed by security forces in Pakistan’s Punjab province, including a ‘target killer’. Giving information, officials said that the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab Police had arrested TTP’s ‘target killer’ Faizan Ahmed Butt last week in connection with the killing of policemen in Lahore in April.
Firing on police
CTD spokesperson said, “The CTD team took ‘target killer’ Butt to Karol forest on the outskirts of Lahore in the early hours of Sunday to recover weapons. A pistol and two hand grenades were recovered at his information.” He said that when the CTD team reached the terrorist’s hideout, six people believed to be TTP terrorists reached the area and started firing on the police team to free Butt.
Three terrorists managed to escape
The spokesperson said, “The police team retaliated and four terrorists including Butt were killed in the firing. The other three managed to escape from the spot.” He said that two Kalashnikov rifles and a pistol were also recovered from the spot. Last month, three policemen were killed by unknown gunmen in Lahore and the TTP had claimed responsibility for the attack. In a statement released on social media, the Khorasan faction of the TTP had claimed responsibility for the attack.
Guidelines issued for policemen
Punjab Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar has issued new guidelines for policemen in view of the target attacks by TTP. The new guidelines state that policemen should wear bulletproof jackets while on duty, especially at the entry-exit points of the city. Policemen have also been instructed to remain armed while on duty or while leaving the office.
