Ukraine strikes Russian apartment building killing 15 people
At least 15 people were killed when a ten-storey residential building collapsed in Russia’s south-western city of Belgorod on Monday. According to reports, the building collapsed due to an attack from Ukraine. All 15 bodies have been recovered from the debris. Earlier on May 12, Belgorod and its suburbs were shelled by Ukrainian armed forces.
Information released by the Ministry of Emergency Situations said that 12 people, including two children, were rescued from the scene. The governor of Belgorod shared a video in which a large hole is visible in the collapsed building.
Tochka-U missile that struck the building was among several that Ukraine launched overnight, the Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement. It was unclear if the missile struck the building as a target or if the damage was caused by fragments of a downed missile, the ministry said.
Search-and-rescue workers initially recovered the bodies of 11 people from the rubble of the apartment building, according to Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry.
